EMDR therapy was modeled off of how our brains naturally process information during REM sleep. Information from our day and gets integrated into your system or it gets stuck depending on the health of your system. If you have seen Inside Out 2, think of the core memories and how they are stored. Sometimes challenging experiences, especially when we were kids, get stored in ways that get stuck. Remember? Joy proudly designed a system to throw Riley’s “bad” memories out where they could not be consciously remembered.
